“Home of the BIG ones!”

Sometimes overlooked by charter fishing boat clients, the Port of Milwaukee has much to offer the “Big Lake” angler.  Both novice and experienced anglers alike will be pleasantly surprised to know Milwaukee County has produced more state record fish than any other county whose shores are touched by lake Michigan.

A check of the records of the “National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame” shows Milwaukee County has held eight current or past state record fish from lake Michigan.  This number surpasses that of all other counties bordering this inland sea and greatly exceeds the number taken from any neighboring counties.

Milwaukee County proudly holds two current state record fish.  The largest Coho salmon ever brought ashore in Wisconsin weighed 26.19#’s and was caught from the Pegasus by John Gregory, a Leisure Time Charters customer in 1999.  The present state record Atlantic salmon with a weight of 23.15#’s was caught in 1980 within view of the city.

Milwaukee has also laid claim to six other state records.  Coho, Atlantic, Brown or Rainbow, Milwaukee has at one time or another claimed four state records from the top six* salmon and trout species available in the lake.

A record like this is quite an astonishing feat considering Milwaukee County encompasses only 75 of the 326 miles of Michigan shoreline of Wisconsin.

When you are ready to book your next charter-fishing trip remember Leisure Time Charters.  After all, Captain Mike and the Pegasus fish the “Home of the Big Ones” on a daily basis.

* Top six species by weight include Atlantic, Chinook and Coho salmon as well as Rainbow, Brown and Lake trout.
